Andrew Berg is a retired partner. A member of the firm’s Tax Department, his practice focused on transactions involving a wide range of matters, including mergers and acquisitions, business joint ventures, debt restructurings, spin-offs, private equity and real estate. Chambers USA called Mr. Berg “one of the most prominent figures in the New York tax community,” describing him as “creative” and “commercially savvy.” He was recognized by Chambers USA (2014) where clients say that “he is very intelligent, has a lot of experience and is easy to deal with.” The Legal 500 US states Mr. Berg “is the consummate corporate tax lawyer for complex transactional work,” noting clients regard him as “one of the golden handful – get him before the other side does.” Euromoney’s Best of the Best USA (2012) Expert Guide listed him among the top 30 tax lawyers in the USA. He has also been recognized as a leader in his field in The International Who’s Who of Professionals, The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers and The Tax Directors Handbook.

Mr. Berg is a former Chair of the New York State Bar Association Tax Section and has co-chaired Committees on Corporations, Reorganizations and Partnerships. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel. Mr. Berg is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Graduate Division of New York University School of Law. He regularly lectures and writes on tax matters.

Mr. Berg joined Debevoise in 1979 and became a partner in 1987. He received his Sc.B. from Brown University in 1974 magna cum laude with honors in Mathematics. He received his J.D. and LL.M. from New York University in 1978 and 1985 respectively, where he was a member of the Law Review.
