Experience
Alan V. Kartashkin, resident in the Moscow office, is a member of the Corporate Department. He practices in the areas of equipment finance, mergers and acquisitions, and securities. Mr. Kartashkin joined Debevoise’s New York office in 1996 and moved to the firm’s Moscow office in 2001. Mr. Kartashkin is recommended as a leading M&A lawyer by Chambers Global (2007) and was the only lawyer in Russia included in Legal Media Group’s Guide to the World’s Leading Aviation Lawyers (2007).
Mr. Kartashkin received his J.D. from Cornell Law School in 1996, and a law degree with honors from the Moscow State Institute for International Relations in 1993. He is a member of the New York State Bar and is admitted to practice law in Russia.
Mr. Kartashkin’s recent representations include:
- OGK-2, one of the major power-generating companies in Russia, in its $1 billion public offering of shares on the London Stock Exchange.
- Norilsk Nickel, one of the world's premier metals and mining operations, in the $2 billion spin-off of its gold assets and the creation of Polyus Gold, a major international gold company with a market capitalization in excess of $9 billion.
- Polyus Gold in its acquisition of three gold mining companies in Russia and listing of American depositary receipts on the London Stock Exchange.
- RAO UES in the spin-off of OGK-5 and TGK-5.
- OGK-3 in a $3.1 billion offering of newly issued shares to a strategic investor.
- Aeroflot-Russian Airlines in aircraft acquisitions and leases with an aggregate asset value in excess of $5 billion.
