Experience

- Prudential Financial in the financing aspects of the formation of Prismic Life Reinsurance, a licensed Class E Bermuda-based life and annuity reinsurance company.
- Rithm in its acquisition of Sculptor Capital Management, a multi-strategy hedge fund manager, in a transaction valued at approximately $639 million.
- All Seas Capital in the formation of All Seas Capital I, a $400 million debut pan-European private fund.
- Tikehau Capital in its $300 million inaugural collateralized fund obligation.
- Apera Asset Management in the formation of Apera Private Debt Fund II, a €1.27 billion pan-European mid-market private debt fund.
- A major investor in Envigo, a pharmaceutical and biotechnology research provider, in the financing aspects of the sale of Envigo to Inotiv, a drug discovery and development contract research organization, for a total transaction value of approximately $545 million.

Gary Murphy is a counsel and a member of the firm’s Blockchain, Hedge Fund and Derivatives Practice Groups.Mr. Murphy represents technology companies, financial institutions and other institutional clients in the structuring and operation of blockchain platforms and projects. Representative projects include licensing work for virtual currency exchanges, and the structuring, licensing and financing of blockchain-based technologies and platforms. Where relevant to these projects, Mr. Murphy’s work includes analysis of regulatory matters and consideration of jurisdictional issues.In the private fund space, Mr. Murphy represents hedge fund sponsors and investment managers in their formation and operation of hedge funds, managed accounts and other similar vehicles or structures. He also represents institutional investors in connection with their investments in such funds and vehicles. Mr. Murphy’s work in this space includes advice on compliance with regulations of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission relating to commodity pool operators and commodity trading advisors.Mr. Murphy also has extensive experience in negotiating documentation for equity derivatives, credit derivatives, call options, swaps and other derivatives transactions.Mr. Murphy originally joined Debevoise in 1998. He received his J.D. cum laude in 1996 from Harvard Law School, where he was a member of the Law Review. He graduated summa cum laude in 1992 with a B.A. in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and a B.S. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and Wharton School, respectively, and was a Benjamin Franklin Scholar, Joseph Wharton Scholar and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Murphy is admitted to the state bars of New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
