25 May 2016

Debevoise & Plimpton LLP partner Sarah A.W. Fitts has been named an “Energy & Environmental Trailblazer” by The National Law Journal in its second annual list of top lawyers who influence change in the areas of energy and environmental law with innovative legal strategies.

Ms. Fitts was recognized for her work involving the Salem Harbor Project, currently under construction in Massachusetts. Originally a coal plant with additions to burn oil, the site was scheduled to close. Her client, Footprint Power, figured out how to replace the old plant with a state-of-the-art $1 billion natural gas-fired plant. Ms. Fitts also advised Toyota in its collaboration with Air Liquide to build 12 hydrogen stations to support the introduction of Toyota’s hydrogen fuel vehicle.

Ms. Fitts is a corporate partner, a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions Group and Co-Chair of the firm’s Energy & Natural Resources Group. She works in the U.S. and internationally, advising clients on M&A transactions, projects and restructurings, with particular experience in joint ventures and other multi-party governance arrangements. She is recognized as a leading lawyer by Chambers Global (2014-2016), where she is praised for her “sterling reputation” and “her extensive experience in M&A transactional, restructuring and projects work.” In Chambers USA (2015), clients describe her as “very smart, calm, diligent and in control of her team.” She is also recognized by The Legal 500 US (2015).
