Debevoise Publishes Privacy Law Answer Book

19 September 2016

The Cybersecurity & Data Privacy team at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP has authored the new Privacy Law Answer Book (Practising Law Institute, 2016), a user-friendly Q&A guide to the laws and regulations that govern how companies collect, use, store and transfer the personal information of their consumers and employees.

Edited by Debevoise partner Jeremy Feigelson, who leads the firm’s Cybersecurity & Data Privacy practice, the guide addresses the practical daily needs of business leaders who are encountering privacy-related issues in their everyday business affairs, as well as the challenges faced by privacy lawyers and lawyers who may not specialize in the area but are dealing with these critical matters. Contributors to the guide include partners Jeffrey P. Cunard, Luke Dembosky, Jyotin Hamid, Satish M. Kini, David A. O’Neil, Jim Pastore and David Sarratt.

Collectively, Debevoise’s Cybersecurity & Data Privacy practice is ranked among the most preeminent groups nationally. The team is recognized for excellence in Cyber Law by The Legal 500 United States, which singles out the practice for its “thorough, client-friendly and very professionally managed team.”

The Privacy Law Answer Book enables readers to not just keep pace with the latest developments in data privacy, but to stay one step ahead of the data privacy challenges of tomorrow. It is a go-to reference for business leaders and lawyers that helps them to answer key questions such as:

  • What kind of personal information do we collect about our consumers?
  • How do we notify them of what we collect?
  • In what ways are we permitted to use that information?
  • What are the key federal, state, and international privacy rules and how do they apply to our business?
The Q&A guide also addresses:
  • online privacy policies;
  • the Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act (COPPA);
  • mobile device privacy;
  • financial privacy;
  • medical privacy;
  • workplace privacy;
  • online behavioral advertising and tracking; and
  • privacy enforcement and litigation.

The Privacy Law Answer Book concludes with a survey of global privacy issues.
