Debevoise & Plimpton LLP partner Mary Beth Hogan has been named “Lawyer of the Year (Private Practice)” for gender diversity leadership in the profession by Chambers & Partners, as part of the 2015 Chambers USA Women in Law Awards.

The awards ceremony, held at The Harvard Club of New York on June 2, 2015, recognized outstanding performances by female in-house counsel and private practice lawyers, as well as firms and companies that have excelled in introducing gender diversity and mentoring initiatives that have made a significant difference to the retention and promotion of female legal talent.

Ms. Hogan, Co-Chair of Debevoise’s Litigation Department, has a broad-gauged litigation and investigations practice focused on regulatory investigations and enforcement actions involving the Department of Justice, State Attorneys General, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, New York’s Department of Financial Services and other federal and state regulators. In the past several years, she has represented a number of large financial institutions on various mortgage- and credit card-related investigations and class actions. In addition, Ms. Hogan represents companies and law firms in commercial litigation and employment matters, including those involving the False Claims Act, whistleblower and discrimination claims. She also represents educational institutions in connection with sexual abuse investigations.

Ms. Hogan was recognized as “Up & Coming Litigation Lawyer of the Year” at the 2012 Chambers USA Women in Law Awards, and among Profiles in Diversity Journal’s “Women Worth Watching” in 2013. In 2014, she was named to Benchmark Litigation’s “Top 250 Women in Litigation.” Ms. Hogan was also featured in 2013 documentary on The New York Times website, “Great Expectations for Female Lawyers,” a follow-up from a 2001 New York Times Magazine article in which 21 women lawyers at Debevoise were profiled and interviewed about the career prospects for women in law firms.

Ms. Hogan has served on the Board of Directors of Catalyst, a pre-eminent international organization that studies issues associated with women in business and promotes the creation of opportunities for women pursuing business careers, since 2006.
