From October 30th to November 4th, 2011, the International Bar Association (IBA) hosted its Annual Conference in Dubai, which included the participation of several Debevoise lawyers, many of whom hold notable leadership roles in the IBA. Debevoise partner and Co-Chair of the IBA Arbitration Committee, Mark W. Mr. Friedman also gave a speech at the Arbitration Committee dinner thanking his outgoing Co-Chair, Judith Gill QC, for her years of service to the committee.

Nicholas F. Potter, partner and Co-Chair of the firm’s Financial Institutions Group, spoke at a session that looked at the developing international regimes aimed at identifying and monitoring systemically important institutions and systemic risk in the financial system.

David W. Rivkin, Co-Chair of the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Group and Secretary-General of the IBA, spoke at a session that explored the art of persuasion, focusing on practices and techniques that lawyers can apply in practice to steer the decision-making process.

Partner and an officer of the IBA Investment Funds Committee, Rebecca F. Silberstein, co-chaired a session that shared recent case studies of bespoke structuring of funds, including co-investment funds, managed accounts and acquisitions and financing structures. Ms. Silberstein also spoke at the IBA Investment Funds Committee dinner about the U.S. private equity industry.
