The importance of Brazil's trade and investment ties with China and the emerging markets of the so-called global south has become evident in recent months. Chinese demand for commodity exports and its investments in raw materials and - increasingly - consumer industries have helped cushion the Brazilian economy from the gloom descending in the developed world.
