US Law Student Recruitment
Summer Associate Programme (applications for summer 2012 are now closed)
We run a summer associate programme for US students, in addition to our UK vacation scheme. Every year, we offer a few students who have completed their second year at a US law school the opportunity to spend a number of weeks with us in the London office. These students will be exposed to a broad range of cross-border work, focussing primarily on our international corporate practice. At the start of the summer, each student is allocated a partner and associate adviser who will be on hand to mentor and advise him or her throughout the summer. Summer students spending the time in London generally start with us in early May.
In addition, a select group of students participating in our New York summer associate programme may be given the opportunity to work in our London office for a few weeks. For further information, please see our Summer Associates page.
Benefits
Each student spending time with us over the summer will receive a competitive salary, as well as a daily allowance for incidentals and assistance in finding suitable accommodation for his or her time in London. We run a comprehensive summer events calendar which helps students to get to know our lawyers (and vice versa) in an informal setting.
The Application Process
The programme is open to those who have completed at least two years of a US law school and who are interested in working in our London office after completion of their studies.
We typically conduct on-campus interviews for London summer associates at a select number of law schools. If we haven’t interviewed at your school, or you were unable to secure an interview slot with us, please send a cover letter, resume, and transcript to us and we’ll be in touch with you. Successful candidates will be invited to attend a telephone interview conducted by one or more London partners, and may then be given the opportunity to speak with several associates. Final decisions can take up to one month depending on how many students are interviewed.
We expect students who are offered a place on our London summer programme to be seriously considering commencing their career in London after graduation from law school.
Support Staff
Our support staff help us provide outstanding client service. They ensure our lawyers receive a high level of professional support and contribute to the success of the firm. We are always interested in hearing from people who are looking for support career opportunities at Debevoise. Please submit a CV and covering letter to Annmarie Grant at London-recruit@debevoise.com.
