Robert U. Hess is a law clerk in the Litigation Department and a member of the International Dispute Resolution Group. Mr. Hess focuses on international investments and complex commercial and investor-state disputes across various industry sectors.
Mr. Hess joined Debevoise in 2018. Mr. Hess received his LL.M. magna cum laude in International Business Regulation, Litigation and Arbitration from New York University School of Law in 2018, where he was a graduate editor of the NYU Journal of International Law and Politics and served as a research assistant to Professor Linda J. Silberman and Professor Franco Ferrari. He received his J.D. with high distinction from Friedrich Schiller University School of Law in Germany in 2012. Prior to joining Debevoise, Mr. Hess was a research scholar at New York University School of Law and a research fellow and lecturer at Friedrich Schiller University School of Law. Mr. Hess advises the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot team and the Foreign Direct Investment Moot team of New York University School of Law.
Mr. Hess is the author of several articles in the field of international commercial and investment arbitration, including most recently “Enforcement of Arbitral Awards Set Aside or Annulled at the Seat of Arbitration” in Andrea Bjorklund, Franco Ferrari and Stefan Kröll (eds), Cambridge Compendium of International Commercial And Investment Arbitration (co-authored with Linda J. Silberman, forthcoming in 2019).
Mr. Hess speaks German, English and French and is proficient in Japanese.
