Alison M. Hashmall is a counsel in the firm’s New York office and a member of the firm’s Financial Institutions, Banking, Fintech, ESG and Special Situations Groups. Ms. Hashmall’s practice focuses on advising domestic and non-U.S. banking organizations and other financial institutions on a wide range of bank regulatory, policy, and transactional matters and cryptocurrency-related issues.

Ms. Hashmall advises clients on a broad range of bank regulatory matters, with particular experience advising on the Bank Holding Company Act, the Volcker Rule, and topics related to recovery and resolution planning, such as total loss-absorbing capacity (TLAC), single-point of entry resolution strategies, the FDIC receivership process and the preparation of living wills. Ms. Hashmall also advises financial institutions and industry trade groups on developments in the ESG and climate space and represents financial institutions in connection with their M&A, Fintech investments and capital raising activities, new activities and products, and related regulatory applications and approvals from both U.S. federal and state bank regulatory agencies.

Ms. Hashmall has also led advocacy efforts in response to regulatory proposals and developments, including on ESG and climate-related developments. Her work includes representing the main trade organizations in the financial services industry, including the Financial Services Forum, the Institute of International Bankers, the Risk Management Association and the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, in connection with advocacy efforts on regulatory and legislative proposals, and she has assisted clients in the policymaking process before federal regulators.

In addition, she is an active thought leader on emerging issues in the bank regulatory space. Ms. Hashmall’s insights have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Politico and the American Banker and she has authored articles on a wide range of bank regulatory topics, including in Law360Lexology: Getting the Deal Through, Thomson Reuters, and Bloomberg Law.

Ms. Hashmall is recognized by Chambers USA (2021–2023) in Financial Services Regulation: Banking (Compliance). Clients say she is a “dedicated and responsive lawyer” and “highly thought of.” She receives praise for her negotiation skills, “broad knowledge base,” and ability to provide “clear and timely advice and recommendations.” In previous editions of the guide, clients note that she is “smart as a whip and highly analytical.”

Ms. Hashmall clerked for the Hon. Douglas H. Ginsburg of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from 2010 to 2011.

She received her J.D. magna cum laude from New York University School of Law, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif, a notes editor for the New York University Law Review, a Pomeroy Scholar and a Butler Scholar. Ms. Hashmall also earned an M.Phil. in Development Studies with Distinction from the University of Cambridge and received her A.B. cum laude from Princeton University in the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, where she also received a Certificate in Finance.
