Matthew D. Forbes is an associate in the Litigation Department. His practice focuses on commercial litigation and international disputes in trial and appellate courts.

Mr. Forbes has litigated in jurisdictions across the United States. He has argued in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of New York and the District of Columbia, and New York’s Commercial Division. He has also examined and cross-examined witnesses in a commercial arbitration.

Before joining Debevoise in 2017, Mr. Forbes clerked for Judge Thomas I. Vanaskie on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and Chief Judge John R. Tunheim on the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota. From 2014 to 2015, he practiced at a union-side labor law firm in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Forbes received his J.D. from Stanford Law School in 2014, and his B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2006. Prior to law school, he served on U.S. Representative Collin C. Peterson’s legislative staff from 2007 to 2011, and was a field organizer for the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party in 2006.
