Debevoise & Plimpton LLP today announced that Alison M. Hashmall has joined the firm’s New York office as a counsel and member of the Financial Institutions Group and Banking Group. Ms. Hashmall’s practice will focus on providing international and domestic banking organizations advice on transactional, regulatory, policy and legislative matters.
Ms. Hashmall is a broad-gauged bank regulatory lawyer and joins Debevoise from an international law firm. Her practice includes advising financial institutions and industry organizations on a wide range of bank regulatory matters, including in connection with advocacy efforts on regulatory and legislative proposals. She also advises on capital raising activities and other transactional matters. In this vein, Ms. Hashmall’s practice will focus on the full range of regulatory and policy matters including recalibration of the post-crisis regulatory framework, the Volcker Rule, authority and control matters, total loss-absorbing capacity (TLAC) and single-point of entry resolution strategies.
The arrival of Ms. Hashmall marks a significant addition to Debevoise’s growing Financial Institutions Group. Her arrival follows the addition of Jeffrey L. Robins, a leading broker-dealer and derivatives regulatory lawyer last year.
“We are thrilled to welcome Alison to Debevoise,” said Gregory J. Lyons, partner and Co-Chair of the firm’s Financial Institutions Group. “She knows and is known to many of our clients, and her addition will further strengthen our position as a leading advisor in the banking industry. We believe success attracts the best talent, and Alison is a perfect example of that.”
“I’m excited to join the Debevoise team, particularly because of the extraordinary breadth, market prominence and trajectory of its banking practice,” said Ms. Hashmall. “I’m eager to begin the next phase of my career and look forward to working alongside such a talented, collaborative group of lawyers.”
Ms. Hashmall received her J.D. magna cum laude from New York University School of Law, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif, a notes editor for the New York University Law Review, a Pomeroy Scholar and a Butler Scholar. Ms. Hashmall also earned an M.Phil in Development Studies with Distinction from the University of Cambridge and received her A.B. cum laude from Princeton University in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, where she also received a Certificate in Finance.
