Corporate Whistleblowing in 2019

16 July 2019
Organizer: Practising Law Institute
Location: New York, New York

Topic: Whistleblowers’ Bar: Current Trends and Perspectives

On July 16, Debevoise partner Arian June will moderate the “Whistleblowers’ Bar: Current Trends and Perspectives” panel at PLI’s “Corporate Whistleblowing in 2019” Program.

The panel will focus on:

  • How are employers responding to this evolving environment?
  • What is the next wave of whistleblower claims?
  • How can both whistleblower and company counsel best prepare and protect their clients based on these new developments?

PLI’s “Corporate Whistleblowing in 2019” Program will offer expert insights into recent whistleblower developments that have shaped the current risk landscape in this rapidly evolving area. Leading whistleblower law experts, including current and former regulators, will provide in-depth perspectives on recent regulatory and legal developments, including the current and future direction of the federal whistleblower bounty and protection programs, what to expect in regulatory enforcement developments in the coming year, and best practices in responding to whistleblower reports. The program will also review the challenges of prosecuting and defending whistleblower claims and offer practical strategies for managing them.

Debevoise & Plimpton’s white collar and regulatory defense lawyers have extensive experience in conducting internal investigations on behalf of companies and boards. Drawing on our deep experience in government and dealing with regulators on behalf of clients, we are able to provide wise counsel and sound judgment about voluntary disclosures and cooperation with regulatory bodies. Working with the white collar and regulatory lawyers handling investigations, our commercial litigators are frequently called upon to defend False Claims Act suits and other collateral litigations that often accompany regulatory matters. Likewise, our employment litigators are frequently called upon to advise on dealings with whistleblowers and defend any retaliation claims whistleblowers may bring. Subject matter experience from our non-litigation practices, such as tax, securities and many others, is also often brought to bear. Debevoise also routinely helps clients implement whistleblower protection policies and internal processes for addressing whistleblower complaints.

Debevoise & Plimpton LLP is a premier law firm with market-leading practices, a global perspective and strong New York roots. We deliver effective solutions to our clients’ most important legal challenges, applying clear commercial judgment and a distinctively collaborative approach.
