First SFO Bribery Act Convictions Confirm New and Severe Sentencing Regime

In the first SFO prosecution under the Bribery Act 2010, two individuals have been convicted of, respectively, being bribed and bribing another person.
The sentences in
R v West and R v Stone
were the first to be imposed under the new sentencing guideline in force since 1 October 2014.
Sentences of six and four years’ imprisonment for the bribery offences represent an expected significant increase in sentences for bribery offences.
