In a recent profile for Law360, partners Peter J. Loughran, Steven J. Slutzky and Matthew E. Kaplan discuss what attributes and achievements led the team to being named a “2018 Capital Markets Practice Group of the Year.”.

The past year saw the firm guide billion-dollar IPOs and follow-on offerings to raise funds and finance acquisitions in the insurance industry. Along with the firm’s roster of high-profile, complex matters, the partners explain that it is the firm’s culture that also allows them to be so successful.

“None of us are compensated based on attribution, credit or origination,” explained Mr. Kaplan. “Our boats all rise with the tide and so we are incentivized to pull in the same direction, to get the right people on the deal, get the right people answering the questions.”

Regularly involved in many complex, market-shaping deals, Debevoise’s Capital Markets practice covers a broad range of transactional and advisory matters. The Group is global in scope, including over 70 lawyers from nine offices in key financial centers. Utilizing an interdisciplinary approach, the team regularly draws upon specialists from other areas of the firm, including those in banking, bankruptcy and reorganization, communications, derivatives, employee benefits and executive compensation, finance, insurance, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, and tax.
