Debevoise Names Seven New Counsel and International Counsel

Debevoise & Plimpton LLP announces that Samuel Duncan, Erol Gulay, Andrew Jamieson, Elizabeth Nielsen and Nicholas Pellicani have been named counsel to the firm and that Robert Hoose and Ralph Sellar have been named international counsel to the firm. Their promotions became effective on July 1.

Samuel Duncan is a member of the Tax Group and is resident in the firm’s New York office. His practice focuses on advising clients in a range of sectors on tax structuring and other considerations in major mergers and acquisitions. He received his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in December 2009 and his B.A. with honors from Wesleyan University in 2005.

Erol Gulay is a member of the firm’s White Collar & Regulatory Defense Group, resident in the New York office. He has significant experience representing and advising corporate and individual clients in connection with federal and state regulatory investigations and civil enforcement actions. In addition, Mr. Gulay routinely advises on regulatory compliance matters and has deep experience conducting internal investigations. He received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2010, his B.A. magna cum laude from Harvard University in 2005, and his M.Phil from Oxford University in 2007.

Robert Hoose is a member of the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Group and is resident in the firm’s London office. His practice focuses on international commercial arbitration and commercial litigation, particularly in the construction and engineering sectors. He received his B.A. in Law in 2007 from the Queen’s College, University of Oxford. Mr. Hoose is an Exhibitioner of the Middle Temple, London, and qualified as a barrister in 2010 after undertaking training with a London barristers’ chambers specializing in construction, engineering, insurance and shipbuilding.

Andrew Jamieson is a member of the firm’s Insurance Group and is resident in the firm’s New York office. His practice focuses on advising international clients on mergers and acquisitions and capital markets transactions. He received his J.D. cum laude in 2011 from New York University School of Law and his B.A. cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2006.

Elizabeth Nielsen is a member of the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Group and is resident in the firm’s New York office. Her practice focuses on international commercial and treaty arbitrations, public international law, and white collar criminal defense. She previously clerked for Chief Judge James E. Baker of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and for the Hon. Edward R. Korman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Ms. Nielsen received her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2011 and her B.A. from Northwestern University in 2008.

Nicholas Pellicani is a member of the firm’s Capital Markets Group and is resident in the firm’s New York office. His practice focuses on securities laws and capital markets transactions, as well as a broad range of corporate governance matters. He regularly represents issuers and sponsors in transactions such as initial public offerings, high-yield debt offerings, tender offers and private placements. Mr. Pellicani received his J.D. from St. John’s School of Law magna cum laude in 2011 and his B.S. cum laude from Boston College in 2004.

Ralph Sellar is an English and Hong Kong qualified member of the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Group and is resident in the firm’s Hong Kong office. He is a commercial litigator with extensive experience in financial services litigation, has conducted regulatory investigations and white collar criminal defense cases involving the major financial regulatory agencies in the U.K., Hong Kong and the U.S. and routinely advises on cross border matters. He graduated from University College London in 2006 with a first class degree.
