Debevoise & Plimpton LLP announced today that Joe Binder has joined the firm as counsel in the firm’s Investment Management Group, based in the San Francisco office. Mr. Binder comes to Debevoise from Sequoia Capital, a leading venture capital firm and long-standing client of Debevoise, where he served as Associate General Counsel.
A former Debevoise associate, Mr. Binder brings to the firm extensive experience in private fund formation. His practice will focus on advising established and emerging sponsors on all aspects of private investment funds, including fund formation and ongoing fund and management company operations.

Mr. Binder returns to Debevoise at a time of significant growth for the Investment Management Group, which was recently named a Practice Group of the Year by Law360, and the firm’s new San Francisco office, which opened in September 2021 in response to the strong growth in the number of clients in the region, particularly in the private investment and technology industries. The office currently comprises lawyers who specialize across a broad range of practices, including private capital fund formation, white collar and regulatory defense, mergers and acquisitions, data strategy and security, and intellectual property litigation.
