Debevoise & Plimpton LLP partner Catherine Amirfar, Co-Chair of the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Group and the Public International Law practice, has been named a finalist for Litigator of the Year by The American Lawyer. The 2026 Industry Awards will take place on November 12, 2026.
The recognition follows a series of significant matters led by Ms. Amirfar over the past year across a broad array of international disputes, ranging from representing countries and international organizations before the International Court of Justice on important issues of public international law to serving as lead counsel in billion-dollar commercial and investment treaty arbitrations.
Ms. Amirfar routinely represents clients before international arbitration tribunals and U.S. and international courts. From 2014–2016, Ms. Amirfar served as the Counselor on International Law at the U.S. Department of State in the Obama Administration. She is ranked in Band 1 in Chambers Global and Chambers USA for International Arbitration and as a Star Individual in Chambers Global for Public International Law.
