Adele Karig is a retired partner. She has been advising sponsor and investor clients for over 30 years on the tax and economic aspects of a wide variety of domestic and international private investment funds, including buyout, growth capital, international private equity, mezzanine, infrastructure and other U.S. and non-U.S. private equity funds. Her practice also includes advising on related entities and transactions including management arrangements, employee funds and co-investment agreements. She is recognized by Chambers USA, where clients describe her as “very knowledgeable” and as “one of the most experienced and expert lawyers in the private equity space.”

Ms. Karig’s fund formation clients include: Baring Private Equity Asia, Beijing Enterprises Group, CDH Investments, China Renaissance Capital Investment, Fairview Capital, HarbourVest Partners, Hony Capital, J.F. Lehman, Navis Capital Partners, NCH Capital and Pharos Capital. On the investor side, her clients include Ford Foundation, General Electric Pension Trust, HarbourVest Partners and major sovereign wealth funds.

Ms. Karig is the author of “U.S. Taxation of Tax-Exempt and Foreign Investors in U.S. Private Investment Funds,” Practising Law Institute (2016) and is a contributing author of the Debevoise & Plimpton Private Equity Report. She is a founding member and former Chair of the New York Private Investment Funds Tax Forum.

Ms. Karig joined Debevoise in 1980. She received a B.A. from Yale University in 1977 and a J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1980. She has been admitted to appear in the U.S. Tax Court.
