Carl Lasker is an associate in the Litigation Department. Mr. Lasker assisted in developing Debevoise’s Suite of Tools for Assessing AI Risk (“STAAR”), a groundbreaking client AI platform. STAAR brings together a comprehensive collection of practical tools—including a vetted use-case library, policy templates, and regulatory trackers—and has been profiled by Law.com (“Debevoise & Plimpton Is Building a New Model for Delivering AI Adoption Advice”) and Law360 (“Debevoise Builds Tool to Help In-House Attys Assess AI Risk”). In December 2025, STAAR won the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers North America Awards in the “Innovation in New Legal Products” category.
Mr. Lasker joined Debevoise in 2024. Mr. Lasker earned his J.D. from Yale Law School in 2024, where he was a Coker Fellow and an executive editor of the Yale Journal of Law & Technology. He received his B.A. summa cum laude from the College of William & Mary in 2020.
Mr. Lasker previously served as a judicial extern for the Hon. Mark A. Goldsmith of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, a law clerk in the United States Department of Justice, Federal Tort Claims Act Litigation Section and a fifth-grade teacher with City Year AmeriCorps. He serves on the Junior Board of Advocates for Children. His writing has been published in the Yale Law & Policy Review and the Public Service Review.
