Craig Bruens is a member of the firm’s Restructuring Group. Mr. Bruens focuses his practice on corporate restructurings. He has represented debtors, creditors, directors and other significant parties in large and mid-sized Chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructurings. Mr. Bruens was among the winners of Turnaround Management Association’s 2016 “Transaction of the Year: Large Company Award” for his role in advising Altegrity in its Chapter 11 proceedings and successful restructuring of more than $1.8 billion in funded indebtedness.Prior to joining Debevoise, Mr. Bruens was a member of the restructuring group of a leading international law firm. He has substantial experience in all aspects of the restructuring process, including both litigation and transactional matters, and in addressing mass tort and environmental liabilities in Chapter 11 cases. Additionally, Mr. Bruens has represented numerous clients in connection with the purchase of distressed assets and as parties in bankruptcy-related litigation. Mr. Bruens was one of the lead restructuring lawyers representing Chemtura Corporation in its Chapter 11 restructuring, which was selected by Turnarounds & Workouts as one of the top 10 “Successful Restructurings of 2010.” Mr. Bruens was also selected as a 2011 recipient of the Turnaround Management Association’s “Turnaround of the Year – Mega Company” award for his work representing Chemtura Corporation. Mr. Bruens joined Debevoise in 2013. He received his J.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1998, where he was a member of Order of the Coif, and his B.A. with distinction from Duke University in 1995. Mr. Bruens is a member of the Bar of New York and of the Bar of the District of Columbia.
