Dimitra Karakioulaki is a corporate and litigation associate and a member of the Antitrust & Competition, Arbitration & International Disputes and Funds/Investment Management Groups.
Ms. Karakioulaki joined Debevoise in 2024, having held various positions at academic institutes and non-governmental organizations across the United States and Europe; among them the Human Rights Institute at Columbia Law School and the Clooney Foundation for Justice. Ms. Karakioulaki holds an LL.M. from Columbia Law School in New York, awarded in 2022, and an LL.M. from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, awarded in 2021. During her studies she has received numerous awards, including a Human Rights Institute Commendation for Leadership in Human Rights and the Parker School Award of Achievement in International and Comparative Law. Her academic achievements have also earned her a Harlan Fiske Scholarship and a Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Scholarship, among others. She received an LL.B. from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2020.
As part of her pro bono work at the firm, Ms. Karakioulaki has contributed to a groundbreaking criminal complaint filed in Germany on behalf of eight Tigrayan survivors of the conflict in Ethiopia. The complaint, submitted in collaboration with Legal Action Worldwide, the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights, and Dr. Anna Oehmichen, seeks accountability for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by senior Ethiopian and Eritrean officials.
Ms. Karakioulaki was seconded as Legal Counsel to a Swiss multinational food and beverage company in 2024, where she advised on the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.
Ms. Karakioulaki is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Thessaloniki Bar Association, and the Frankfurt Bar Association. She is admitted to practice in the United States, in Greece and as a griechische Anwältin and Attorney-at-law in Germany.
Ms. Karakioulaki is a native speaker of Greek, is fluent in English and German, and is proficient in French.
