Emma Macfarlane is a litigation associate and member of the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Group. Her practice focuses on international arbitration, complex commercial litigation and public international law. Ms. Macfarlane is admitted to practice in New York.

Ms. Macfarlane joined Debevoise in 2022. She previously worked in the offices of Judge Hilary Charlesworth at the International Court of Justice in the Hague.

Ms. Macfarlane received a J.D. from Michigan Law in 2021, where she was awarded the William W. Bishop Jr. Award for performing with distinction in the field of international law, the Kouba Prize for best paper on International Peace and Security, the Michigan Journal of International Law Award for Outstanding Scholarly Contribution, and the prize for first place in the regional Vis International Commercial Arbitration competition. Ms. Macfarlane has held fellowships with the Geneva-based NGOs INHR and the International Commission of Jurists. She received a B.A. from McGill University in 2016.
