Experience

- Google in a patent infringement case relating to speaker technology. Obtained a complete defense-side verdict for Google against Sonos following a jury trial in the Northern District of California.
- Waymo in a trade secret misappropriation case relating to autonomous vehicle technology. After opening statements and on the fourth day of the parties’ jury trial in the Northern District of California, the parties settled the case with Uber agreeing to give Waymo a percentage of equity in Uber valued at $245 million as well as injunctive relief.
- eBay in a breach of contract and unfair competition case regarding Amazon’s use of eBay’s messaging system to unlawfully recruit eBay sellers to the Amazon platform.
- A major Bay Area technology company in its dispute with a former employee concerning the former employee’s threat to publicly disseminate information that the employee had improperly withheld upon resignation. Obtained an injunction requiring the employee to return the improperly withheld information and prohibiting the employee from sharing it.

Lindsay Cooper Hayman is a litigation partner and a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group. Her practice focuses on supporting established and emerging technology companies in their most important business disputes, with an emphasis on high-stakes, complex intellectual property and commercial litigation. She has litigated some of the most significant intellectual property cases of the past decade, including billion-dollar disputes for major technology companies against their competitors. In 2024, she was named one of the top 40 lawyers in California under the age 40 by the Daily Journal. In 2022, she was selected as a “Lawyer on the Fast Track” by The Recorder, an award that recognizes California lawyers under age 40 who are considered to be the next generation of legal leaders. Ms. Cooper Hayman has extensive trial experience in state and federal courts around the country, including cases involving patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, trademark and trade dress infringement, breach of contract, fraud, unfair competition, and employment law. Her work spans many industries, including technology, telecommunications, e-commerce and finance. She has litigated intellectual property cases concerning autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence, search technology, computer hardware and software, speaker technology, battery management, mobile gaming, network security, fintech and cryptocurrencies. Ms. Cooper Hayman also maintains an active pro bono practice. She works closely with the Justice & Diversity Center of the Bar Association of San Francisco, which awarded Ms. Cooper Hayman its Housing Justice Award for her success in representing low-income tenants facing eviction. She received her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2012 and her B.A. from Duke University in 2009.In addition to her law practice, Ms. Cooper Hayman serves on the board of directors for the Bay Area Discovery Museum, a children’s museum located in Sausalito, California.
