Peter A. Furci and Peter F.G. Schuur Named Co-Chairs of Tax Department at Debevoise

Peter A. Furci and Peter F.G. Schuur have been named Co-Chairs of the Tax Department at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP.

Mr. Furci is a tax partner and a member of the firm’s Private Equity, Latin America and Family Enterprise Groups. He specializes in M&A, investment fund formation and general corporate transactions.

Mr. Schuur is a tax partner who advises on a broad range of M&A transactions, with a focus on corporate transactions in the insurance industry. He also has extensive experience advising clients on the formation of U.S. and international investment funds.

Mr. Furci is listed as a leading tax lawyer by Chambers USA (2012-2016), which notes that clients regard him as “an expert and pragmatic lawyer” that “understands the overall commercial picture” and “really knows how to drive the process forward.” Mr. Furci is also recognized by The Legal 500 US (2011-2016), where sources note he is “top-notch” and “simply the best tax lawyer I have ever worked with.” Most recently, Law360 named Mr. Furci a “Law360 MVP” in 2015, honoring him for his exceptional work in tax.

He joined Debevoise in 1995 and became a partner in 2003. He received his B.A. cum laude from Dartmouth College in 1992 and his J.D. magna cum laude from New York University in 1995, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and the Tax Law Review. Mr. Furci also received his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University in 1999.

He joined Debevoise in 1992 and was based in the London office from 2000 until 2007. He earned a B.S. from the University of Michigan in 1989 and a J.D. with honors from the University of Chicago Law School in 1992.
