Debevoise Takes Leading Role at “Negotiating Impact Investments” Course in Nairobi, Kenya

8 December 2017

In November, Debevoise & Plimpton LLP supported pro bono client International Senior Lawyers Project (“ISLP”) to deliver a course on negotiating impact investments at Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya. The objective of the 2-day CPD accredited course was to provide an interactive introduction to this growing area of investment in East Africa to Kenyan lawyers.

Partner Geoff Burgess and international counsel Philipp von Holst provided an international outlook on numerous topics, including capital structures, management and governance as part of the training course. They facilitated workshops across the two days focusing on a basic impact investing deal within the foods sector, from term sheet negotiation through closing and focused specifically within an African context.

Other presenters were drawn from organizations such as Kenyan law firm Anjarwalla & Khanna, Ugandan law firm TASLAF, TrustLaw (part of the Thomson Reuters Foundation), Beyond Capital Fund, Village Capital, Acumen and Sunfunder.
