Debevoise Lawyers Gregory Lyons and David Sewell Appointed to Leadership Roles on NYC Bar Banking Law Committee

Debevoise & Plimpton partner Gregory J. Lyons has been appointed Chair of the New York City Bar Association’s Banking Law Committee and counsel David G. Sewell has been named Secretary.

The New York City Bar Association’s Banking Law Committee explores current legal and policy issues affecting banks and other financial institutions operating in the United States and abroad. In addition, the committee issues reports on proposed legislation and legal interpretations.

With these appointments, Mr. Lyons and Mr. Sewell join a number of their fellow Debevoise colleagues who hold, or have held, prominent leadership positions in bar associations and other professional organizations, upholding the firm’s longstanding commitment to public service and thought leadership.

Mr. Lyons is a corporate partner and Co-Chair of the firm’s Financial Institutions Group. His practice focuses on serving the needs of financial institutions, as well as private equity and other entities that invest in financial institutions, with a particular emphasis on domestic and cross-border bank regulatory, transactional and examination matters. Mr. Sewell is a counsel in the firm’s New York office and a member of the firm’s Financial Institutions and Banking Groups. His practice focuses on banking regulatory and enforcement matters with special emphasis on anti-money laundering, sanctions and financial crime compliance issues.
