Debevoise Adds New International Counsel to Funds/Investment Management Group

29 June 2020

Debevoise & Plimpton LLP today announced that John Anderson is joining the firm’s London office as an international counsel and member of the Funds/Investment Management and Private Equity Groups.

Mr. Anderson rejoins the firm after six years as the General Counsel at Park Square Capital, a leading private debt manager. He had previously spent 14 years at Debevoise in the firm’s New York and London offices.

Mr. Anderson has deep experience in all aspects of fund formation, including with Luxembourg and non-European fund structures, most notably for senior and subordinated credit fund strategies. He has also regularly advised on separate account arrangements, including for EU institutional clients with complex regulatory and tax issues.

Mr. Anderson is admitted to practice in New York.

Debevoise’s Funds/Investment Management Group in Europe is one of the few to have senior English- and U.S.-qualified fund formation practitioners on the ground. It is one of the most active in the market and continues to grow, most recently through the opening of a new office in Luxembourg.

The European team is part of an integrated global practice that has advised sponsors of, or investors in, over 2,800 private investment funds worldwide, with committed capital of over $3 trillion.

Geoffrey Kittredge, Chair of Debevoise’s European Funds/Investment Management Group, comments: “We are delighted to welcome John back into the team. He adds an impressive skillset in advising on a wide variety of fundraising issues, and his insight into the credit fund sector will be of particular benefit to a number of our clients.”

John Anderson, international counsel at Debevoise, comments: “The last six years have been highly enjoyable, and I’ve had the privilege to work alongside extremely talented colleagues. It has given me a keen appreciation for the real-world concerns of in-house counsel at private investment fund managers and advisors; lessons I’m eager to apply in my new role at Debevoise. Returning to the firm was a great opportunity to fit back into a high caliber team, and I’m excited to play my part in their continued success.”

Robin Doumar, Managing Partner at Park Square Capital, comments: “John has played an important role in the growth of Park Square, and has been instrumental in establishing our in-house legal team. He now leaves with our best wishes to rejoin Debevoise, a firm with whom we have worked since Park Square was founded. I am certain that John will make a great success of his new role, and look forward to continuing our work with him and the wider team at Debevoise.”
