Debevoise & Plimpton LLP partner Maurizio Levi-Minzi co-organized the book Fusões e Aquisições: Pareceres (Mergers and Acquisitions: Legal Opinions) alongside legal scholars Carlos Portugal Gouvêa and Mariana Pargendler, published by Editora Almedina, and co-authored its preface with M&A associate Sergio Torres.
The book is a collection of legal opinions rendered by renowned jurists in the context of M&A disputes in Brazil. It sheds light on corporate disputes in Brazil that are usually confined to confidential proceedings. The publication is a result of the first M&A Conference of the Americas (MACA) co-founded by Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, PG Law, Mattos Filho, and BTG Pactual and organized by New York University (NYU), FGV Direito SP, and the University of São Paulo (USP) in March 2020. The second edition of the conference is expected to be held on August 8, 2022 at the University of São Paulo, Brazil.

Sergio Torres is a corporate associate and a member of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity and Latin America Groups. His practice focuses on domestic and cross-border acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, venture capital and private equity investments and corporate governance matters for private equity sponsors, financial institutions and other corporate clients. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Legal English Institute of Fordham Law School.
