Saraphin Dhanani is an associate in the Litigation Department.Ms. Dhanani joined Debevoise in 2023. From 2022 to 2023 she was the Legal Fellow at Lawfare. Ms. Dhanani received a J.D. from Stanford Law School where she was the senior articles editor of the Stanford Law Review. She received a B.A. from Wellesley College where she was a Fellow at the Madeleine Korbel Albright Institute. Prior to law school, Ms. Dhanani worked in the Markets Group at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Ms. Dhanani has written and podcasted widely on topics related national security law and policy, including a three-part series on the erosion of judicial independence in India, Lawfare (2023), the legal consequences of designating a foreign nation as a state sponsor of terrorism under 28 U.S.C § 1605, Lawfare (2022), and an evaluation of presidential immunity defenses in the District of Columbia case of U.S. v. Donald J. Trump, Lawfare (2023), which she co-authored. She is also a co-author of “Preparing For Stricter Anti-Boycott Enforcement Under Trump,” Law360 (February, 2025) and the author of “July 1, 2047: Doomsday for Hong Kong Property Law,” Stanford International Policy Review (2021).Ms. Dhanani is a member of the Bar of New York and the District of Columbia. She is fluent in Urdu and Hindi.
