Shawn Yang is a member of the firm’s Investment Management and Private Fund Transactions Groups. Mr. Yang’s practice focuses on private equity fund formation, GP-led continuation funds, LP-led portfolio sales and select investor-side representations.

Mr. Yang’s recent experience includes representing clients such as EQT Private Capital Asia, KKR, HSG (formerly Sequoia China), Blue Pool Capital, Stonepeak, Advantage Partners, Morgan Stanley, Navis Capital Partners, Stepstone, Coller Capital, TPG NewQuest, HarbourVest Partners and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board.

Mr. Yang is a regular speaker on various industry panels, a senior industry contributor to Mastering Private Equity: Transformation via Venture Capital, Minority Investments and Buyouts, 2nd Edition, a guest lecturer at INSEAD Singapore and a member of the GPCA Legal & Regulatory Council.

Mr. Yang has been ranked as a leading lawyer by Chambers Greater China (2025-2026) where he is described as “a great lawyer with very strong commercial sense.” He is named as a Next Generation Partner by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific – Greater China (2024-2026), where he is described as “extremely smart and dedicated, very commercial, always makes time, very client centric and generally a real pleasure to work with.” Mr. Yang was also recognized as one of the “Future 40 Leaders” by Private Equity International in 2024, and one of Asia’s 40 Under 40 Lawyers by Asian Legal Business in 2022.

Mr. Yang received a J.D. in 2012 from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he served on the Managing Board of the Virginia Law Review, and a B.A. from the University of Southern California in 2008.

Mr. Yang joined the firm’s New York office in 2012 and transferred to the Hong Kong office in 2013. He is a member of the Bar of the State of New York.
