Christopher Smeall is a retired partner. He is qualified in New York.

Mr. Smeall had a broad multinational transactional practice. He structured and negotiated cross border and domestic acquisitions, project financings, joint ventures and numerous other kinds of transactions and commercial arrangements.

Mr. Smeall formerly served as the firm’s Deputy Presiding Partner and was for nine years on the firm’s Management Committee. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Mr. Smeall joined Debevoise as an associate in 1980 and became a partner in 1988. He received his B.A. from University of Michigan in 1973 and his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1979. Prior to joining Debevoise, Mr. Smeall served as a law clerk to the Hon. J. Joseph Smith, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
