Dr. Friedrich Popp is an international counsel in the Frankfurt office and a member of the firm’s Litigation Department. His practice focuses on arbitration, litigation, internal investigations, corporate law, data protection and anti-money laundering. In addition, he is experienced in Mergers & Acquisitions, private equity, banking and capital markets.

Dr. Popp joined the firm in 2011. Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Popp was an associate with well-known Austrian law firms in Vienna from 2004 to 2009. From 1998 to 2004, Dr. Popp was a research assistant at the Institute for Civil Procedure and the Institute for Roman Law and Ancient History of Law of the University of Vienna and a research assistant at the European Centre of Tort and Insurance Law and the Austrian Society for Bank Research.

Dr. Popp is a regular author of “Wirtschaftskanzleien,” an annual Special of Börsen-Zeitung, of the Germany chapter in International Comparative Legal Guide - Corporate Investigations Laws and Regulations (January, 2024), and the Germany chapter in GIR Know-How: Privilege, published by Global Investigations Review (December, 2023). Other recent publications include “Eight GDPR Questions when Adopting Generative AI,” NYU Compliance & Enforcement (October, 2023).

Dr. Popp is a member of the Bar Associations of Vienna, Frankfurt am Main and New York.

Dr. Popp studied and received his doctorate in law at the University of Vienna and obtained an LL.M. in 2010 from the University of Virginia School of Law.

His native language is German and he is fluent in English.
