EU Adopts Common Minimum Standards for Whistle-Blower Protection
3 July 2019
View Debevoise In Depth
The European Union has agreed to a Directive on common minimum rules for the protection of whistle-blowers reporting violations of EU law and interests.
All companies with more than 50 employees will in due course be required by the EU member states to establish internal procedures for handling whistle-blower reports covered by the Directive.
A comparison with the existing whistle-blower protections in the UK, France, and Germany shows that the Directive will require changes to the existing framework, strengthening whistle-blower protections.
