Matthew J. Sorensen is a counsel in the Litigation Department whose practice focuses on representing clients in the insurance, private equity, hedge fund and financial services industries in complex commercial disputes, appellate litigation, and related regulatory matters.
Mr. Sorensen joined Debevoise in 2017. From 2016 to 2017, he clerked for the Hon. Denny Chin of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Mr. Sorensen received his J.D. magna cum laude from Fordham University School of Law in 2015, where he was senior articles editor of the Fordham Law Review. He received an A.B. with honors from the University of Chicago in 2006.
Mr. Sorensen was recently featured in the article “Shout-Out: Debevoise Defeats $14.5B Whistleblower Suit,” AmLaw Litigation Daily (April 9, 2019), which highlighted the firm’s successful representation of six leading national life insurance companies in a qui tam lawsuit that alleged over $14.5 billion in damages, achieving complete dismissal of all claims with prejudice. Mr. Sorensen is also the author of “Enforcement of Forum-Selection Clauses in Federal Court after Atlantic Marine,” 82 Fordham L. Rev. 2521 (2014), which has been cited by numerous courts, including the Fifth Circuit.
