Debevoise & Plimpton LLP partners Mary Beth Hogan and Helen V. Cantwell have been recognized in Crain’s inaugural list of “Leading Women Lawyers in New York City.”

According to Crain’s, the recognition of 100 New York lawyers named to the list “are trailblazers who found multiple paths to excellence. Some are partners and practice leaders at the city’s big law firms, others corporate counsel at Manhattan companies. These are women who juggle both distinguished careers and exceptional civic and philanthropic activities.”

Ms. Hogan, Co-Chair of Debevoise’s Litigation Department, has a broad-gauged litigation and investigations practice focused on regulatory investigations and enforcement actions involving the Department of Justice, State Attorneys General, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, New York’s Department of Financial Services and other federal and state regulators. In the past several years, she has represented a number of large financial institutions on various mortgage- and credit card-related enforcement actions. Ms. Hogan is also a leading expert in the area of school sexual abuse and is retained frequently by school boards of directors to conduct independent investigations of current or past allegations of sexual abuse or other sensitive issues.

Ms. Cantwell is a litigation partner with extensive trial experience. Her practice focuses on white collar criminal defense, regulatory enforcement actions, and internal investigations. Ms. Cantwell represents a wide range of individuals, companies, schools, and nonprofits, and she frequently advises clients on their compliance obligations. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Cantwell served for eight years as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. During her tenure in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, she was a member of the Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force and worked closely with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Commodities Futures Trading Commission and other law enforcement and regulatory agencies. Ms. Cantwell joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2000, after four years as an Assistant District Attorney in the New York County District Attorney’s Office.
