Debevoise & Plimpton LLP today announced that Edward D. “Ted” Hassi, a leading antitrust lawyer, has joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. office as a partner and member of the Antitrust Practice Group. Mr. Hassi’s practice will focus on antitrust litigation and obtaining merger clearances in transactions reviewed by the U.S. antitrust agencies.
Mr. Hassi is a former FTC Chief Trial Counsel who from 2011-2014 led the agency’s work on matters that were or were likely to be tried, including high-profile challenges to several mergers and cases involving other anticompetitive practices. Most recently, he served as a partner at an international law firm where he represented clients across an array of industries.

Throughout his career, Mr. Hassi has established himself as a respected thought leader, regularly speaking at conferences and authoring articles on a range of antitrust subjects. A highly regarded member of the antitrust bar, he is a former U.S. Navy pilot who pursued law following a successful eight-year military career.

Mr. Hassi received his J.D. cum laude from Fordham University School of Law, where he was also selected to the Order of the Coif; and earned a B.S. from the United States Naval Academy.
