Emily MacKay is a corporate associate and a member of the firm’s Restructuring Group and Liability Management & Special Situations team. She regularly advises investors, companies, sponsors and other parties in interest in distressed mergers & acquisitions, Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings and out-of-court restructurings. Ms. MacKay’s recent experience includes acting for clients such as CD&R and Brigade Capital Management.
Ms. MacKay is co-author of “Strange Bedfellows: Structuring Governance and Exit Rights for a Restructured Company,” Debevoise Private Equity Report (Fall 2024, Vol 24, No 3); “Bankruptcy Litigation Demonstrates the Extent of the Crypto Contagion,” The M&A Lawyer (August, 2023); and “When Statutory Schemes Collide: The Intersection of Bankruptcy and Environmental Law,” Turnaround Management Association (July, 2021).
Ms. MacKay maintains an active pro bono practice, which includes serving as counsel to several nonprofit foundations on various issues, including intellectual property (licensing, rights protection and publication issues), corporate governance and employment matters.
Ms. MacKay joined Debevoise in 2019 and completed a one-year rotation in the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions Group with an emphasis on Intellectual Property issues. She received a J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2019, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar. She received a B.A. with honors from Davidson College in 2013.
