John Vasily is a retired partner and a former member and Co-Chair of the firm’s Financial Institutions Group. His practice was dedicated to handling insurance M&A deals, public and private, in the United States and other major markets. Mr. Vasily occupied a unique space in the insurance transactional market, focusing his practice on significant U.S. insurance M&A deals as well as transactions in emerging markets, including Asia, Africa, Latin America, Russia and Europe. Few, if any, lawyers practicing in the insurance space have done as many deals, in as many countries, as Mr. Vasily. Among his recent third-party reviews:

-Classed as “Highly Regarded” by the IFLR1000 (2022) for M&A in the Banking, Financial services, Insurance and Investment management sectors.

-A leading lawyer and a member of the Hall of Fame in The Legal 500 US (2022) for insurance transactional work.

Mr. Vasily has been an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law School since 2002, lecturing on international securities laws. He received a J.D. from Georgetown in 1982 and a B.S. from Villanova University in 1979. Mr. Vasily serves on the Board of Visitors of the Georgetown University Law Center and on the Advisory Board for the Law Center’s Corporate Counsel Institute. He is a recent recipient of the Law Center’s Paul R. Dean award, awarded to distinguished alumni.
