Debevoise Names Nine New Counsel and International Counsel

Debevoise & Plimpton LLP announces that Richard Grossmann, Nick Kaluk, Daniel Stroik and Sarah Wolf have been named counsel to the firm and that Benjamin Amos, Conway Blake, Jan Buschmann, Ardil Salem and Shawn Yang have been named international counsel to the firm. Their promotions became effective on January 1.

Benjamin Amos is a member of the Investment Management Group and is resident in the London office. He advises private equity sponsors and fund investors in a broad range of matters, including fund formation and restructurings, secondaries, ongoing operational matters, co-investments, carry planning and management team spinouts, and acquisitions of interests in private equity firms. Mr. Amos received his J.D. cum laude from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2010, a Graduate Diploma in Law from the City Law School, London, UK in 2004 and his B.A. from Oxford University in 2003.

Conway Blake is a member of the International Dispute Resolution Group and is resident in the London office. He represents corporates and sovereigns in a range of disputes, particularly in investor-state arbitration, public international law disputes and commercial arbitrations. He graduated from the University of Cambridge with a PhD in public international law, having received his LLM first class from the same institution. He received his LLB first class from the University of the West Indies.

Jan Buschmann is a member of the Insurance Group and is resident in the Hong Kong office. He advises insurance companies and other financial institutions on corporate transactions and regulatory matters, and is qualified in England/Wales and Hong Kong. Mr. Buschmann received his law degrees from the University of Paris I – Panthéon-Sorbonne in 2005, the University of Cologne in 2007, and the University of London in 2007, and a doctorate in law from the University of Bonn in 2015.

Richard Grossmann is a member of the Real Estate Practice and is resident in the New York office. His practice focuses on commercial real estate transactions, including platform and single-asset joint ventures and property acquisitions, dispositions and financings, and the real estate aspects of mergers and acquisitions and corporate financing transactions. Mr. Grossmann received his J.D. cum laude from Northwestern University School of Law in 2013, his M.B.A. from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University in 2013 and his B.A. from Yale College summa cum laude in 2001. He also earned his M.St. in Classical Archaeology from Lincoln College, Oxford with honors in 2002 and an M.Phil in History of Art from Yale University in 2006.

Nick Kaluk is a member of the Restructuring Practice and is resident in the New York office. He advises debtors, investors and other creditors in Chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructurings. Mr. Kaluk previously clerked for the Hon. Allan L. Gropper in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. He received his J.D. magna cum laude from Brooklyn Law School in 2011 and his B.A. from Columbia University in 2005.

Ardil Salem is a member of the Commercial Litigation Practice and is resident in the London office. He advises clients on high-value, complex and multi-jurisdictional commercial litigation including disputes arising from joint ventures, breaches of contract, breaches of duty by company directors, civil fraud, professional negligence, corporate restructurings and insolvency. Mr. Salem received his M.A. with honors in Law from the University of Cambridge in 2008 and completed the Legal Practice Course with distinction at BPP Law School in London in 2009.

Daniel Stroik is a member of the Restructuring Practice and is resident in the New York office. He advises clients on distressed investing and corporate restructurings, with a particular focus on financing issues, and regularly represents debtors, existing creditors, debtor-in-possession lenders and other significant parties in large and mid-sized Chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructurings. Mr. Stroik received his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School with honors in 2011 and his B.A. summa cum laude from the College of New Jersey in 2008.

Sarah Wolf is a member of the White Collar & Regulatory Defense Group and is resident in the New York office. She advises clients on sensitive and internal investigations, regulatory and criminal defense and compliance matters. She previously clerked for the Hon. Kevin McNulty of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Ms. Wolf received her J.D. magna cum laude from Rutgers School of Law – Newark in 2008 and her B.A. cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000.

Shawn Yang is a member of the Investment Management Group and is resident in the Hong Kong office. He has extensive experience on a variety of fund related matters and has advised on some of the region’s largest fund raisings and strategic investments as well as a number of notable secondary transactions. Mr. Yang received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2012 and his B.A. cum laude from the University of Southern California in 2008.
