Debevoise Names Five New Counsel and International Counsel

Debevoise & Plimpton announces that Ben Lee Friedman, John Love and Xiao Luo have been named counsel to the firm, and that Anne-Mette Heemsoth and Natasha McCarthy have been named international counsel to the firm. Their promotions are effective on January 1.

Ben Lee Friedman is based in the New York office and a member of the Tax Group. His practice focuses on advising private equity and corporate clients on a broad range of M&A transactions, as well as aviation finance and leasing. From 2012 to 2014, he clerked for the Hon. Juan F. Vasquez of the United States Tax Court. Mr. Friedman received his B.S. from the University of Florida in 2007, his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Florida in 2011, and his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University in 2012.

John Love is based in the New York office and a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions Group. His practice focuses on advising public and private companies, including private equity clients, in connection with a variety of corporate transactions including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures. Mr. Love received a B.S. magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 2008 and his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2013, where he was a James Kent Scholar and a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.

Xiao Luo is based in the New York office and a member of the Investment Management Group. His practice focuses on advising sponsors of private equity funds, including buyout, credit, GP stakes and real estate funds. Mr. Luo received his Bachelor of Law magna cum laude from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Law in 2004, his LL.M. from Columbia University School of Law in 2009, and his J.D. magna cum laude from New York University School of Law in 2014.

Anne-Mette Heemsoth is based in the London office and a member of the firm’s Antitrust & Competition Group. Her practice focuses on EU and UK competition law and regulation, as well as foreign direct investment regimes. Ms. Heemsoth received her B.Sc. from Maastricht University in 2007, her LL.B. from King’s College London in 2011, and a Postgraduate Diploma in EU Competition Law from the same institution in 2017.

Natasha McCarthy is based in the London office and a member of the firm’s Litigation Department. Her practice focuses on high-value, complex and multijurisdictional commercial litigation. Ms. McCarthy received her B.A. with Honours in 2006 and her LL.B with first class Honours from the University of Sydney in 2006.
