Philipp von Holst (LL.M., NYU) is an international counsel in Debevoise & Plimpton LLP and a partner in Debevoise & Plimpton Europe S.à r.l. He is a member of the firm's Private Equity, Mergers & Acquisitions, Finance and White Collar & Regulatory Defense Groups and has a broad international practice in Europe and Africa with a focus on private equity, cross-border mergers & acquisitions and financing transactions. His second focus is on white collar defense, internal investigations and compliance assessment. He is a member of the firm’s Africa practice group and has worked on numerous Africa-related transactions in the private equity, TMT, food and healthcare sectors.

Mr. von Holst is named as a Rising Star in IFLR1000 (2022-23), and as a leading lawyer in the JUVE Handbuch Wirtschaftskanzleien (2022/2023). He is a lecturer at the Institute for Law and Finance at Frankfurt University and also a speaker at events run by the African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association, EMPEA and Invest Europe, amongst others. He is co-author of “Germany: Mandatory Human Rights Due Diligence,” Compliance & Enforcement (May, 2021); the Germany chapter in The European, Middle Eastern And African Investigations Review (2016, 2017 and 2018), published by Global Investigations Review, and the German chapter of The Legal 500: Mergers & Acquisitions Country Comparative Guide (2018).

He is a member of the firm's Pro Bono Committee and a co-founder of Pro Bono Deutschland e.V., an association for the promotion of pro bono legal advice in Germany. Mr. von Holst is admitted to the Frankfurt bar (1992) and the New York bar (1996).

Mr. von Holst graduated as a Rechtsreferendar in 1989 from Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich and as an Assessor in 1992 from the Bavarian Ministry of Justice. He received an LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 1995.
