Philipp von Holst (LL.M., NYU) is a partner in Debevoise & Plimpton Europe S.à r.l. and Rechtsanwalt as well as Attorney-at-law in Debevoise & Plimpton LLP. He is a member of the firm's Private Equity, Mergers & Acquisitions and Finance Groups and has a broad international practice in Europe and Africa with a focus on private equity, cross-border mergers & acquisitions and financing transactions. Mr. von Holst is also a member of the firm’s Africa practice group and has worked on numerous Africa-related transactions in the private equity, TMT, fintech, food and healthcare sectors.
Mr. von Holst is named as a Rising Star in IFLR1000 (2022-23), and as a leading lawyer in the JUVE Handbuch Wirtschaftskanzleien (2022/2023). He is a lecturer at the Institute for Law and Finance at Frankfurt University and also a speaker at events run by the African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association, EMPEA and Invest Europe, amongst others. He is co-author of “Germany: Mandatory Human Rights Due Diligence,” Compliance & Enforcement (May, 2021); the Germany chapter in The European, Middle Eastern And African Investigations Review (2016, 2017 and 2018), published by Global Investigations Review, and the German chapter of The Legal 500: Mergers & Acquisitions Country Comparative Guide (2018).
He is a member of the firm's Pro Bono Committee and a co-founder of Pro Bono Deutschland e.V., an association for the promotion of pro bono legal advice in Germany. Mr. von Holst is admitted to the Frankfurt bar (1992) and the New York bar (1996).
Mr. von Holst graduated as a Rechtsreferendar in 1989 from Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich and as an Assessor in 1992 from the Bavarian Ministry of Justice. He received an LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 1995.

Sein zweiter Fokus liegt im Bereich von White Collar Defense, internen Ermittlungen und Compliance Assessments. Herr von Holst ist des Weiteren Mitglied der Afrika Practice Group der Kanzlei und hat in den letzten Jahren bei einer Vielzahl von Transaktionen im Private Equity Bereich, TMT sowie bei der Nahrungsgüterwirtschaft und Gesundheits¬versorgung, mit Afrika-Bezug beraten.
Herr von Holst ist Lehrbeauftragter am Institute for Law and Finance der Goethe Universität Frankfurt am Main sowie Vortragender bei Veranstaltungen von EMPEA, Invest Europe und AVCA (Africa Private Equity and Venture Capital Association).
Ferner ist er Co-Autor von “Germany: Mandatory Human Rights Due Diligence,” Compliance & Enforcement (Mai, 2021) sowie Autor des deutschen Kapitels in „The European, Middle Eastern And African Investigations Review“ 2016, 2017 und 2018 (herausgegeben von Global Investigations Review) sowie Mitautor des deutschen Kapitels des Legal 500 Comparative M&A Guide 2018. Herr von Holst ist seit 1992 in Frankfurt als Rechtsanwalt und seit 1996 in New York als Attorney-at-law zugelassen. Er legte in München 1989 sein Erstes und 1992 sein Zweites Staatsexamen ab und erwarb1995 einen LL.M. an der New York University School of Law.
Seine Muttersprache ist Deutsch, darüber hinaus spricht er fließend Englisch.
