Debevoise & Plimpton LLP announces that Almas Daud, Morgan Davis, Andrew J. Gershon, Yana Mereminsky, Sheena Paul, Mai Shapiro, Paulina Stanfel and Jenny Wheater will become partners of the firm, effective July 1.
Almas Daud is based in the London office and a member of the firm’s Finance Group. Her practice focuses on advising borrowers, sponsors, funds and financial institutions on a wide range of financing transactions. Ms. Daud received her M.A. from the University of Cambridge in 2013, completed the L.P.C. at Kaplan Law School in 2011 and received her B.A. from the University of Cambridge in 2009.
Morgan Davis is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation Group. Her practice focuses on advising clients on complex civil litigation, including securities litigation, mass tort litigation and contract disputes. From 2015 to 2016, she clerked for the Hon. Claire C. Cecchi on the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. Ms. Davis received her J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2015 and her B.A. magna cum laude from Barnard College in 2011.
Andrew J. Gershon is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Investment Management and Private Fund Transactions Groups. His practice focuses on advising clients on secondary transactions, including fund recapitalizations and restructurings, traditional acquisitions and dispositions of fund interests, leveraged and syndicated acquisitions, secondary direct transactions, tender offers and co-investment opportunities. Mr. Gershon received his J.D. from New York University Law School in 2013 and his B.A. magna cum laude from Columbia University in 2008.
Yana Mereminsky is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Investment Management and Private Equity Groups. Her practice focuses on advising sponsors of private investment funds across a range of strategies, including buyout, middle market and credit funds. Ms. Mereminsky received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2015 and her B.A. summa cum laude from The Ohio State University in 2012.
Sheena Paul is based in the Washington, D.C. office and a member of the firm’s Investment Management Group. Her practice focuses on regulatory and compliance matters in the investment management industry, and in particular on complex legal issues applicable to private funds and their investment advisers across a range of strategies. Ms. Paul received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 2012 and her B.A. from Macalester College in 2007.
Mai Shapiro is based in the Hong Kong office and a member of the firm’s Tax Department. Her practice focuses on advising private fund sponsors on fund formation and ongoing operational matters, and sponsors and investors on traditional and complex secondaries transactions. Ms. Shapiro received her J.D. from the University of Virginia in 2003 and her B.A. magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1997. Ms. Shapiro is admitted to practice as an attorney in New York and as a solicitor in Hong Kong.
Paulina Stanfel is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Financial Institutions Group. Her practice focuses on advising clients in connection with mergers and acquisitions, reinsurance transactions and other complex transactions in the insurance industry. Ms. Stanfel received her J.D. magna cum laude from Duke University School of Law in 2015 and her B.S. with highest distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2012.
Jenny Wheater is based in the London office and a member of the firm’s Tax Department. Her practice focuses on advising clients on the UK tax aspects of establishing and operating various types of investment funds, including private equity, debt and real estate funds, and the UK tax aspects of mergers and acquisition transactions. Miss Wheater received her LL.M. from Georgetown University in 2002 and her B.A. from Durham University in 1994. She is admitted to practice in both England and Wales and in New York.
