Daniel Shamah is a corporate partner in the firm’s Restructuring Group and a member of the Bankruptcy Litigation and Liability Management & Special Situations teams. His practice focuses on complex restructuring and insolvency matters, including chapter 11 cases, insolvency-related litigation, out-of-court liability management transactions and sophisticated distressed financings.
Mr. Shamah’s practice reflects a rare ability to navigate both the legal and strategic dimensions of restructuring. He is equally adept at litigating contested matters, negotiating multi-party restructurings, and structuring creative solutions to address evolving capital structures. Clients rely on him not only for his technical command of bankruptcy law but also for his practical, business-oriented approach to solving problems under pressure.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Shamah has represented creditors, debtors and a broad range of other stakeholders across industries, including public and private companies, ad hoc creditor groups, financial institutions, and private equity sponsors. His experience on all sides of the capital structure enables him to anticipate competing interests and drive efficient, consensus-oriented outcomes where possible, while remaining a formidable advocate when disputes arise. Mr. Shamah also brings a unique perspective to advising boards, as he has helped multiple private equity firms and other financial institutions in claims brought by litigation trustees arising out of their former portfolio companies and other investments. In that role, he has represented clients in some of the highest profile post-bankruptcy fiduciary duty and fraudulent transfer cases in the country, including in Tops Markets, Sears, Boston Generating, Fusion Telecommunications, AOG Entertainment, Tribune and others.
Mr. Shamah received his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center in 2006 and his A.B. from Columbia University in 2003.
