Debevoise Names Five New Counsel and International Counsel

Debevoise & Plimpton LLP is pleased to announce that Ivona Josipovic and Jaesuk Yoo have been named counsel to the firm, and Emily Lam, Evgeny Samoylov and Tingting Wu have been named international counsel to the firm. Their promotions became effective on July 1.

Ivona Josipovic is a member of the firm’s White Collar & Regulatory Defense Group, resident in the New York office. Her practice focuses on white collar defense and internal investigations. Ms. Josipovic regularly conducts cross-border and large-scale investigations for clients in a wide range of industries. She has significant experience representing and advising corporate clients in matters involving compliance with corrupt practices legislation, including in multijurisdictional matters that resulted in coordinated global resolutions. She holds a J.D. cum laude from University of Michigan Law School, a Master’s in International, Comparative, and European Law (LL.M.) from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, and a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Harvard University.

Emily Lam is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department, resident in the Hong Kong office. Ms. Lam has deep experience in a broad range of commercial litigation matters. She has advised on contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, insolvency matters, internet fraud and regulatory investigations. Ms. Lam has also represented clients in dealing with law enforcement agencies and regulators such as the Commercial Crime Bureau, the Independent Commission Against Corruption and the Securities and Futures Commission. In addition, Ms. Lam advises on contentious regulatory matters, including issues relating to disclosure of inside information, internal systems and controls, and disciplinary proceedings, and generally on regulatory compliance and market misconduct issues. Ms. Lam holds a PCLL from the University of Hong Kong. She speaks fluent Cantonese, Mandarin and English and is admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong.

Evgeny Samoylov is a member of the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Group, resident in the Moscow office. His practice spans commercial, corporate, construction, infrastructure and real estate disputes. He advises and represents clients from a wide range of sectors both in international arbitration and in court litigation. Mr. Samoylov graduated from the Faculty of Law of Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and defended his PhD thesis in civil (private) law at the same university. In addition to his counsel work, he lectures and delivers practical classes on civil (private) law as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Law of MSU. A native Russian speaker, he is fluent in English and German. Mr. Samoylov is admitted to practice in Russia.

Tingting Wu is a member of the firm’s Corporate Department, resident in the Shanghai office. Ms. Wu represents multinational companies and Chinese companies in a broad range of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, foreign direct investment in China, initial public offerings and compliance with U.S. securities laws and regulations. She has particular experience representing Chinese and multinational insurance companies. Ms. Wu holds an LL.M. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, and an LL.B. and a B.A. from University of Science & Technology of China. Ms. Wu’s native language is Mandarin and she is fluent in English. She is admitted to practice as an attorney in New York and qualified in the PRC.

Jaesuk Yoo is a member of the firm’s Corporate Department and Aviation Group, resident in the New York office. His practice focuses on corporate matters, with a concentration on aviation transactions, including leases, mortgage financings, restructurings, aircraft purchase agreements, regional jet matters and other fleet transactions. Mr. Yoo received his J.D. from Cornell Law School and his B.A. from the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.
